“A building is the story of the people who inhabit it. The role of the architect is simply to give them the space in which to live that story out.”
William Sofield
In a city that pulses with activity, there has always been something more relaxed about life on the Upper East Side. On these beautiful, tree-lined streets, history and culture coexist in perfect harmony with the buzz of the modern world. There’s a true sense of place here, a real sense of community. That is precisely what inspired us to create Beckford House & Tower.
Working with world-renowned designers Studio Sofield, we’ve created two gracious residential buildings — we like to think of them as sisters or kindred spirits — that not only reflect the unique character of this storied location but consciously seek to enhance it. With his design, William Sofield brings historical influences and contemporary sensibilities to both buildings: the larger of the two, Beckford Tower, rises 31 stories in elegant hand-laid limestone and brick; the more intimate building at Beckford House takes its proportional cues from the city’s art deco residential icons. Residents of both buildings will enjoy a comprehensive program of amenities and a design ethos that embraces natural tones and textures.
Beckford House & Tower is a distillation of all that makes the Upper East Side such a desirable place to live. Confident and sophisticated, these sister buildings engage in a fresh dialogue with the neighborhood, one rich in detail and substance.
